One day before the official start of Mobile World Congres 2011 in Barcelona, both Samsung and Sony Ericsson are organizing press conferences. The topic of SE conference is Xperia family of phones. We know that one of them is Xperia arc, but is Sony Ericsson going to surprise us with another one ? Check out our previous post on details about Xperia arc. We will be there, so expect more info on 13. Feb.
Just recently at CES 2011, Sony Ericsson revealed a new high-end Android phone XPERIA arc. Besides very thin case, it will come with Gingerbread Android 2.3 OS. Some of the specs include:
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- Camera 8.1MP, HDMI connector
- Screen 854x480 pixels on 4.2" 16,777,216 colour TFT, LED backlit
- Memory microSD™ (supported to 32GB) + -- Phone memory Up to 512MB
- Size 125.0 x 63.0 x 8.7 mm / 117g
We must recall the moment X10 was announced, SE failed to deliver the final product to the market, and then it became outdated, with old Android version. This could be big for Sony Ericsson. The device looks great, and it was even noticed with Android 2.4 at CES, which was later dismissed. The guys at Engadget and Swedroid got a chance to play with it and we have official videos as well. We have to wait a bit and see ourselves are the screen and camera that great as they say…

Sony Ericsson has announced that it will be launching first smartphone sporting 6.5.3 version of WinMo. It is equipped with 2.4" QVGA (240×320) touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, 3.2 megapixel camera (sadly, no flash), WiFi, microSD slot (again, sadly, with up to 16GB support), micro USB connector, A-GPS and quad-band GPS/EDGE support. It has GreenHeart label, meaning, it will be energy efficient. Phone comes in two colors, Iconic Black and White Silver:
Software bundle is really rich, as you can see from Sony's press release. Windows Mobile 6.5.3 brings support for capacitive screens, multitouch, and more finger-friendly layout.
It is expected to hit the streets in Q2 of 2010.

Remember Xperia X1 and tragic UI panels made by Sony Ericsson (we saw it on MWC 2008)? Although they did not move much from X1 in terms of specs, and Xperia X2 does not seem like anything special, the guys from SE have realized that there is alternative to WM stock UI right there on the market. We had a review of the great SPB Mobile Shell a while ago and could not agree more that this was the best solution for the X2. Check out the image from the Boy Genius Report's coverage of CES 2010.
But, SE is terribly slow, they waited 2 years to update X1 to X2 and they bring us what ? Same processor, same screen resolution, 4-row keyboard (Touch Pro 2 has 5, with separate number row).
Oh we do expect a lot from X10 with Android platform, but SE needs to move fast and be competitive with the price. Can they do it ?
According to Mobile Nova this is the next Sony Ericsson Rachael (Xperia X3?) phone. It will run on Android Donut with following quick specs:
- Snapdragon QSD8250 1GHz (same as Leo)
- Android Donut OS
- 4" WVGA Display (480x800)
- 8.1 MP Camera with LED
- 3.5mm Audio Jack
