We had a chance to play with a test sample of Samsung’s baby-Galaxy aka Spica (aka I5700 Galaxy Lite). You had the opportunity to see green version in action in our previous post. Sample that we have in our hands has matte backcover, totaly resistant to fingerprints -- nice move Samsung. The screen is AMOLED, and it appears that there is only 100MB memory available. Of course it can be upgraded via microSDHC cards, and since this is only a test version, we cannot make any conclusions.
Feel free to drop us a comment below and we’ll try to give you an answer (while we still have it on us). Update: our logo covers something that we just cannot show you
As we mentioned in our previous post, Samsung is preparing a Lite version of Galaxy Android phone. Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite is to be known as Spica and All About Phones has the official photos. Street price should be around 350€ and mobile operators will probably make it available for free under contract. We are yet not certain how will the Samsung TouchWiz for Android look like, and on this photos we can only see the default Google experience UI.
As you can see, the lime green back is gone, and we suppose that the back will be operator-customizable.
Samsung Electronics has released the AMOLED 12M mobile phone which contains a 12 megapixel camera complete with zoom rocker, shutter button and mode dial. The phone's camera has a 3x optical zoom and includes features seen in recent compact cameras including 720p HD video recording,AF Tracking, Smart Auto and Face Recognition. All other functions are controlled via a WVGA (800×480 pixels, 1,152,000 dots) AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) touch screen display. Initiailly only available in the Korean market, the phone/camera is a product of Samsung Electronics, which contains Samsung's mobile phone business. The company is reported to be considering absorbing Samsung's digital camera business – currently a separate company called Samsung Digital Imaging.
Russian site readweb.org has posted new information on Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite. Since we had a device in our hands we are not certain about resolution (it is actually HVGA 320×480) and other specs. As you can see, the fantastic lime green background has changed
Russian source says that the release date is postponed to the beggining of next year (!?) We hope to see it as soon as possible. Here are the specs with our comments in the brackets:
The operating system Google Android 1.5 (should be 1.6 ?)
User interface TouchWiz UI (we did not see it on our test model but it sounds logical)
Touch-sensitive 3-inch display with a WQVGA-resolution (should be 3.2 with HVGA)
Built-in 200 MB memory and a slot for memory cards format microSD up to 32 GB
We have in our hands the upcoming Samsung Android phone -- I5700 Galaxy Lite. We present you a quick gallery and video clip. Galaxy Lite will pack flashless 3.2MP camera and 1GB of memory comparing to I7500 Galaxy’s 5MP/8GB. Everything else is the same (including the great AMOLED screen). We are sad to say that this freakish green battery cover probably won’t be hitting the streets (or mobile operators), since the color is going to change to a more conservative one.
We have received shiny new and improved Samsung I8000 Omnia II with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Samsung TouchWiz 2.0. It feels very fast with 800Mhz CPU, and large AMOLED display with better resolution than previus one. Now there is also an audio 3.5mm jack. We do not like the cover for microUSB socket, and maybe too conventional design.
Enjoy the screen shots of new phone and operating system.
