If this is true, there is more money form Android market for Microsft than new Windows Phone OS?

Image via Flickr The CBI

According to Citi analyst Walter Pritchard, who released a big report on Microsoft this morning, Microsoft gets $5 for every HTC phone running Android

Microsoft is getting that money thanks to a patent settlement with HTC over intellectual property infringement.

Microsoft is suing other Android phone makers, and it's looking for $7.50 to $12.50 per device, says Pritchard.

We knew hardware companies were paying Microsoft, we just didn't know how much. (In October Steve Ballmer said, "Android has a patent fee. It's not like Android's free.")

Google Nexus S

The guys at Swedroid did an awesome job testing Google Nexus S.

During the in-depth test we can see the curved SuperAMOLED display and side by side outdoor video test versus HTC Desire HD. The build quality is on the DHD side, but SuperAMOLED outperforms any other display on the smartphone market today. Check out the video below and the excellent review at Swedroid.

Recent post from the Guardian's Technology Blog has a graphic representation of all current and completed lawsuits in the mobile business. Interesting stuff, so we guess suing is a big hit nowadays.

Who is suing who in the mobile business

Microsoft, the world's largest software company, claims that Motorola infringes nine of its patents in mobile phones  running Google's Android operating system; specifically, email, contacts and calendar synchronisation, scheduling meetings and notifying applications of changes in signal and battery strength. The increasingly-popular Android software is also at the heart of a legal battle between Oracle and Google, while Nokia is embroiled in a long-running legal battle against Apple, and Apple is separately suing manufacturer HTC. Manufacturers have become quick off the mark in launching legal action against rivals, owing to a dynamic smartphone market across continents.

HTC Desire HD vs HTC Desire

Are you getting ready for HTC Desire HD ? It does feel like HD2 in your hand, but here is a direct comparison with a regular Desire. Super LCD 4.3" screen is manufactured by Sony and it should provide more realistic colors and longer battery life compared to old generation AMOLED. However, we think that Super AMOLED still is the best option for the smartphone screens…

We present you with more pictures of just announced HTC Desire HD and Desire Z. We have noticed a couple of interesting features as well:

  • There is an option to import contacts from older HTC, iPhone, BlackBerry… phones directly via bluetooth
  • Black-list application comes preinstalled
  • Desire HD is more pleasant in hand than HD2, just feels better
  • Desire Z looks like a great device but 5-row keyboard on Touch Pro 2 cannot be beaten with a 4-row keyboard

Enjoy the pictures.

on HTC event in London at HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD world premiere.

We can expect up to 20 per cent battery life on these two models and improved version of HTC Sense interface that will allow users to manage their phone over HTCsense.com web service. We can also expect improved mapping software and multimedia capabilities.  Desire HD will also feature 8MPix camera with 720p video support. We can also expect better integration with social networks and new security features (e.g. sending message to phone over web service in case it is lost). HTC Company is also preparing new Windows 7 handsets but they are not permitted to innovate user interface like on Google Android platform, never the less they have announced numerous hardware improvements which we are waiting to see.

HTC Desire Z

New information and images regarding HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2 in the USA, in the photo above and below) begin to surface. It appears that Desire Z will be lighter than Desire with the same screen size (3.7"). Did HTC manage to put all this goodness into just 120 grams ? The new mechanism is simple but weights less than you could expect. We'll have to wait and see about battery performance. This is the second Android phone manufactured by HTC that has physical keyboard (first was HTC Dream aka G1). [Pictures: Engadget]

HTC Desire vs HTC Desire

ai.rs blog crew is back from vacation and we are proud to present you the HTC Desire with Super LCD screen. Although the black looks better on old generation screen (AMOLED), the new one is much more realistic, with natural, pleasant colors. In the following video you can see the differences (not drastic), click full screen and 720p option to see it better. Our vote goes to SLCD
