We have already published a lot of screenshots of Samsung's I8000 Omnia II. Now we have a final build of the software and it looks like Samsung has tried to cover Microsoft flaws as much as possible with it's TouchWiz interface. The device itself is very fast, and build quality is excellent. After a quick check of the specs we present you a vdeo tour and a ton of new screenshots:
You’ve had an opportunity to see HTC Tattoo in action in our previous post. Now we have a newer build and Sense UI up and running. The screen is resistive and suitable for ladies with long fingernails
Apple announced new models including the new, mightier Mac mini. It looks like we’ll finally be able to play 1080p mkv content. Quick specs of the entry model:
Dimensions: 17×17x5 cm (same as the old one)
Processor: Intel Core2Duo @2.26GHz
Up to 4GB of RAM
Ports: FW800, GLAN, 5xUSB
Display out: Mini-DVI port, Mini DisplayPort
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Superdrive
The drawback is of course the price of Something2HDMI adapters and modern LCD TV-s do not have this proprietary ports that Apple likes to give us a headache with…
For the geeks with computer science degree or just brave enough, we have stumbled upon interesting project. The recent set of Samsung TV Firmwares is based on Linux core (GPL), which enabled new perspective on hacking Samsung TV firmware. With some reverse engineering skills, after changing an official version of the firmware in a hex editor, SamyGo programmers , enabled telnet daemon at boot time so you can use alternative firmware on your brand new TV. It is nice to be able to ping your TV and take full control of it.
Further information can be found on SamyGo page or project wiki
We had a chance to play with a test sample of Samsung’s baby-Galaxy aka Spica (aka I5700 Galaxy Lite). You had the opportunity to see green version in action in our previous post. Sample that we have in our hands has matte backcover, totaly resistant to fingerprints -- nice move Samsung. The screen is AMOLED, and it appears that there is only 100MB memory available. Of course it can be upgraded via microSDHC cards, and since this is only a test version, we cannot make any conclusions.
Feel free to drop us a comment below and we’ll try to give you an answer (while we still have it on us). Update: our logo covers something that we just cannot show you
While we wait for the final HTC HD2 ROM to appear (16. october 2009), lets have another quick look at the test sample in action. General impression is -- HD2 is fast! Even with many programs in the background it completes every task flawlessly. We are eager for the final ROM and new version of TouchFLO 3D (or HTC Sense UI as it is now called).
Update: There has been an interest in photo quality. Here is one taken with our test HD2 model.
As promised, we presented the very first video review of HTC Leo, the first capacitive Windows Mobile device from HTC. Stylus is gone and 1GHz Snapdragon processor is in. So long 528MHz… Check out the gallery with few more screenshots of the WM 6.5 on this model (developer screens included).
Video is now back online. Expect a new video review tomorrow (11. october 2009).
As we mentioned in our previous post, Samsung is preparing a Lite version of Galaxy Android phone. Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite is to be known as Spica and All About Phones has the official photos. Street price should be around 350€ and mobile operators will probably make it available for free under contract. We are yet not certain how will the Samsung TouchWiz for Android look like, and on this photos we can only see the default Google experience UI.
As you can see, the lime green back is gone, and we suppose that the back will be operator-customizable.
Ok, this is the moment we have all been talking about. HD2 is now officially announced. All we have to wait for now is the final ROM build and it will hit the streets. Check out the complete specs on HTC website, and we would like to point out:
1GHz Snapdragon processor
4.3" WVGA (480×800) screen
512MB ROM & 448MB RAM
5 MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash
Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC Sense and Opera browser
Tethering (present on WM since … ever)
Wi-Fi Router mode
Digital Compass and all the sensors we need
Social networks integration
3.5mm audio jack
1230mAh battery
As you can see, HTC is presenting to us that TouchFLO 3D is to be known as HTC Sense, UI that was first announced in the HTC Hero unveiling (although the two do not have that much in common).
Be sure to follow our RSS feed and stay tuned for our extensive HD2 video review…
Not so often are we so overwhelmed with a new device that is about to hit the market. These days, it obviously is a time for pre-christmass unveiling. Hot topic for today is the new LCD TV from Toshiba. It is absolutely amazing. According to various sources (see below), this 55-inch, 240Hz display boasts a mighty impressive 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, self-congruency technology for improved picture detail on the edges, a peak luminance of 1250cd/m², and LED backlits dividing the screen into 512 distinct areas.
Powering it up is the PS3 Cell processor and just below the screen Toshiba mounted sound bar consisting of 7 speakers. The user will be able to simultaneously display up to 8 separate screens and browse the web using Opera. Standing next by this beast is a black box that holds 3TB in hard drives (2×1TB + 2×512GB) which can record from up to 8 individual sources for a 26-hour period. Just wow!
The fun starts in december (Japan only) for staggering 1,000,000 yen (7,620 €). Let’s all hope for Q1 launch in Europe and USA…
