ai.rs blog exclusive
We bring you the exclusive photos, screenshots and video preview of new HTC flagship device Leo. As you can see, we were right a month ago when we published first accurate renders of Leo. Our specs date from 21. of July, and now we confirm that we were right on that one too. The most controversial part was capacitive screen – and Yes, Leo has one ! Even with Windows Mobile 6.5. Check out the pictures, screenshots. Video preview of Leo follows soon in another post.

September 18th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
I would really like to know how it is on battery life since this will help me in the decission between a omnia 2 and a htc. Can’t wait for the video thanks for the photo’s and screenshots.
September 18th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Very nice device, I must have to get one!

September 18th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Would be great to know about TV-Out, camera performance (mpx if nothing else, video resolution and fps …
but superb insight …. thanks guys.
September 18th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
@Paul
This test sample has 5MP only setting. Performance is great ! Dual LEDs are great and picture quality has improved significantly. We do not see a TV Out on this sample…
September 18th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Looks nice. Hopefully HTC will bring a similair device running on Androïd (HTC Touch HD2 ???).
September 18th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
How work drawing pictures and notes?
September 18th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Too bad it’s saddled with Windows, would have been a great Android device.
September 18th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Thanks for the article.
A battery life comparison between a GSM diamond and a GSM Pro 3 or a CDMA Diamond and a CDMA Pro3 would be great and some photos or video comparing the two screens in use would be great as well!
Perhaps a video of more side by side comparisons of the top, sides and bottom would be nice as well.
September 18th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
So, it’s true that this phone does not support any US 3G bands?
September 18th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
What a sexy device. I’m definitely ending my Touch HD contract early or buying the Leo / Pro Three SIM Free !
September 18th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Definitely my next phone!
BTW Is the screen SCRATCH RESISTANT GLASS like Nokia X6? or just plastic capacitive like the ones used it OmniaHD and Pre.
thanx
September 18th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Hi there… I am sooooo in love with this phone and I can’t wait for it to be released.
Just a quick question though… Have you tried the music player in TouchFlo with a music library of at least 1000 songs? The Music Player in previous versions of TouchFlo could never handle such an amount of songs and crashes instead. It also comes up with a blank music library.
Would be great if you could try a few hundred songs or so, otherwise… nevermind.
Please keep uploading pics and videos of it! Helps my addiction.
September 18th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
@kj – Notes work perfectly with finger (we are surprised!)
@boybawang – We really cannot say, but it feels really solid and nice to use
@karl – Sorry mate, we did not, did not have the time…
September 18th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
1. How about videorecording (resolution and fps)?
2. Does it have stylus?
3. Does the virtual qwerty detect multitouch when you type fast like in iPhone?
thanx
September 18th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
@boybawang
1. See comments on other post as well, VGA, 30fps
2. No, and you cannot use it with a fingernail or pen (capacitive)
3. You can type fast, we do not know anything about iPhone…
September 18th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
3. You can type fast, we do not know anything about iPhone…
for example with multitouch, if you press two letters at the same time ‘A’ and ‘M’ means both letters should print after you release them. Without multitouch support only one of the two letters is printed so many are skipped if you type very fast.
September 18th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
msav: thanks for answer so drawing as in this video work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGmb_YmUM88
September 18th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
So is this not a 3G phone as was asked earlier, which would mean Sprint wont be receiving it?
September 18th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
@boybawang
None of them is printed if you press two or more…
@kj
Haha, no, obviously you cannot be THAT precise without a stylus, but it works…
September 18th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
@baker
This sample is a 3G/HSPA phone.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
That device should be called HTC Bulldozer. Coz it will demolish any other device in it’s path.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
price?
September 18th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
@nader – Should be in the HD range…
September 18th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
So AT&T gets another monster to go with iPhone. Say it aint so
September 18th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
@baker – T-Mobile has 3G, right ? Just guessing…
September 18th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
@msav – Yes they do but this phone seems like it may be a bit pricey for T-mobile unless they get it subsidized heavily to keep the price low enough for their customers. The Hero will probably get more of their custies mainly bcuz of the Google factor. May just be a wait and see. But this is the phone I would choose, it has so many pluses and the the dual LED flash is definitely ICING!!!
September 18th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Probably either AT&T or T-Mobile though because the accelerometer states EDGE Class 12 also……that is a real boo hoo unless there are 2 versions of the phone like the Hero
September 18th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Then they can give it a name like jethro_static said HTC Bulldozer or Backbreaker or maybe Kimbo Slice
) (that’s right he almost got his arm broke)
)
)
September 18th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
They need to hurry up and make it official where, when and how much…I’m gone
September 19th, 2009 at 12:09 am
Does it have secordary camera? Any smart guy know about it?
September 19th, 2009 at 12:21 am
sorry but my English is not good, please wanted to know if this equipment is going to be 850/1900 3g. otherwise.
i dont know why htc does not make equipment with these frequencies?
September 19th, 2009 at 2:12 am
What a beauty, I want it.
I hope it comes out before 2010.
I think they should keep the name Leo though.
I wonder where ai.rs find all those info.
September 19th, 2009 at 2:41 am
thanks for the response.
Any clue if it’s upgradable to version WM7?
September 19th, 2009 at 11:36 am
@Boybawang without being official ^^ just also a reader …
I think the Leo satisfies the specifications Microsoft announced two weeks ago.
)))
These guidelines were divided into two classes (microsoft calls it chassis), pls dont ask me what that means detailed! But with this strong 1 GHZ processor and the upgraded ram storage I think it will manages it without any problem
I have found the article, here we go:
“WM7 Chassis 1 Specification

Nonetheless I cant imagine that this sexy device will get an official update to wm 7, I guess u have to use a custom-built one…
I am so ready for this device, come on HTC give us a release dateeee!!!
I hope its really November, even this takes just toooooooooooo long
September 19th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I already saw a price of this device 522 euro the Touch HD costs 493, so I think
the price is real.
Does anybody know when WM7 will be released?
Nice device only no smooth IE and lack of HDMI is a downside.
September 19th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
where did u see a price tag?
September 19th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
So is it really going to be called the HTC Touch HD2 :
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2009/09/19/another-htc-leo-hands-on-will-be-named-hd-2/
September 19th, 2009 at 8:58 pm

September 20th, 2009 at 12:28 am
Can you use the “transcriber” capabilites ?
How does one do that?
September 20th, 2009 at 4:07 am
I hope it’s upgradable to windows mobile 7
September 20th, 2009 at 10:47 am
they say its going to hit stores or mobile operaters in october this year!!
http://ai.rs/wp-content/uploads//2009/09/htc_leo_screen_09.jpg
hope the’re right.
September 20th, 2009 at 11:05 am
hey guys
is there a front camera?
i don’t see any.
don’t believe there isn’t!
September 20th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
This probably has no shot in he’ll of a us release by November on sprint does it
!
September 21st, 2009 at 8:53 am
@et & @alrescha – no secondary camera
@theforce – no transcriber on this model
September 21st, 2009 at 9:48 am
Cestitam vam na prvorazrednim informacijama za PPC koji svi ocekivaju.
Fotke sa mrezopm MTS-a i vremenskom prognozom Beograda su vrlo simpaticna.
Serbia is cutting edge definitely.
September 21st, 2009 at 11:20 am
@nikola – Hvala. Thanks, we’ll try even harder.
September 21st, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Does it have AM-OLED screen or still old TFT?
September 21st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
msav, please say that it has AM-OLED screen?
(but I think not)
September 21st, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Hi guys! Thanks for taking the time to answer all these questions. One more if you have the time: is there a compass?
September 21st, 2009 at 10:10 pm
yo, just me shokka9 (google me)..i make ROMs and personally i think WM7 will be sooner than we think, in WM6.5 we have already moved to a different UI, which will not be seen in the WM6.5 released devices….we have moved forward, and i think we will see lots of development, as WM as a wjole is not really liked by the mass public. Personally, i dont know many WinMo users, but there are a lot of us, globally. HTC leo/Firestone/TP3 whatever, look really nice. This is my next phone!
September 21st, 2009 at 11:42 pm
@shokka: good, maybe we will use your firmware
September 22nd, 2009 at 5:47 am
@weinstar – Doesn’t look like AMOLED
@kimmo – We did not have the time to try it out, but found a icon in the dev. menu that mentions it. We’ll have to wait and see.
@shokka9 – This is our next phone as well.
September 22nd, 2009 at 11:34 am
looks great,what winmo is installed ? finally, how much is it cost ?
September 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
@farid – WM 6.5 http://ai.rs/wp-content/uploads//2009/09/htc_leo_screen_46.jpg
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:10 am
I really need one of these, so i can start cooking some WM6.5.1 builds….and customise TF3D, and everything else…….anybody know when these will hit UK operators?
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:53 pm
@msav – Heard there was no TV-Out. Did your demo not have that either?
@force_ – That price seems kinda high on the conversion side
September 23rd, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Great review – very complete.
Is winmo 6.5 prepared for capacity screens (multitouch). Accordingly to the video I only saq multi-touch working with the TouchFlo.
September 24th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
thanks (msav) ,anyone tell something about price !?
September 25th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Two questions:
- Does the screen requires a protector, or is it made of glass since it is capacitive?
- I understand there is no stylus for the device, but can you use one to operate it?
Thanks
September 25th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Why is there no screen showing the dialer for the phone. I have yet to see any images or movies that show off the phone portion of the HD2
September 26th, 2009 at 8:18 am
Gr8 Look Big Screen.I really waiting to launch in Indian market.
September 29th, 2009 at 1:08 am
Please,
Does anyone know if this HTC Leo supports playback of 720p video like the Omnia HD? Please I need to know
(HTC Leo does have the 1ghz Snapdragon processor right?)
September 30th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
If you look at the HTC site, they are prepping for the release. They have taken down the original Touch HD and change the look of their products page. They really need to put this phone on the Sprint Network (like yesterday). The sales would be through the roof. A lot of people in the US want this phone (me 1st of all) and it would be a coup for Spint to get it, not having the iPhone. The word “Beast” is an understatement for this phone.
September 30th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Whoa hey. Is there a way you can get a pic with the leo next to the Touch HD? I saw the HD in person while in Greece over the summer and well that was the most perfect size. Smaller than I thought it to be. Almost made me regret buying the Topaz (Touch Diamond II)
On another note, HTC needs to release this phone with EU/Asia/USA 3G all in one device. That way I can have 3G here in America. Cause we alll know this phone will never reach an American Carrier.
October 1st, 2009 at 12:01 am
DOES THIS PHONE SUPPORT 720p VIDEO PLAYBACK?
October 1st, 2009 at 1:51 pm
What is the name of the music on this video you posted:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEh_VHpzzhA
October 1st, 2009 at 10:22 pm
okay check this link out….Do I see T-Mobile on there? does that mean the HD2 if it comes to US, it will be on T-Mobile…..Wooooooooow!!!!!
http://www.phoneshop.nl/telefoon/10698/htc-touch-hd-2-nl/
October 1st, 2009 at 10:52 pm
@Baker
The phone is sold seperately and you can choose any contract you want.
The discount is related to the provider and contract you choose.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:52 am
Hey, ummm…. looks like Verizon has it on Oct.6th and it’s call the HTC Imagio.
http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/10544.html
Corners look more rounded, but winMobile 6.5, Touchflow3D, etc…..
whattaya think?
C
October 2nd, 2009 at 3:12 am
My bad. Different chassis, slightly. Only a 3.6″ screen and “Leo” is supposed to be 4.3″.

Yes, but that’s T-Mobile UK, and O2. I want to know what where why and WHEN in the US.
October 3rd, 2009 at 1:31 am
Does this phone support 720p video playback or not?
October 3rd, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Hi,
Can you demo a 720p or basic Dattebayo bleach episode (http://www.dattebayo.com/t/b239.torrent)
this is a deal breaker for a lot of us
October 4th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Darn what a nice phone.. can’t wait to get it.
It’s a little big but who cares right?..
October 5th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
thanks Sev for agreeing, a test of the video playback with 720p video is required?
mkv, avi or mp4 @ 720p resolution AND use CorePlayer Mobile app for the test
October 5th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
Here is a coreplayer result of a 720p episode of bleach on the leo.

WHY oh WHY is it not on Android!!!!!!!!!
October 6th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
OKAY PEOPLE….IT’S ON!!!! HTC HD2 (ONE NAME!)
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hd2/overview.html
October 6th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
thanks Lee, thanks for posting the 720p video playback results
October 7th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
thanks again for those 720p results for the HTC Leo.
1. so this means CorePlayer will be able to successfully decode many 720p video content Without using hardware acceleration?
2. I am looking for the music in this Youtube vid of the Leo made by this site:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEh_VHpzzhA
October 8th, 2009 at 3:20 am
I wish HTC added AM radio support as well as SW/LW/MW stations in the form of some digital tuning method that would be so awesome.
My third question is….
3. Does the onboard Qwerty keyboard auto-rotate to landscape if I turned the phone right,left etc during writing text messages and emails?
October 9th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Marco, the song is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvjvRJ2JfkU
When do you guys come with a full review =^_^=
October 9th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
@michael – probably during the weekend
October 9th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
@Michael – thank you so much for the music
=======
Just these three remaining questions:
1. so this means CorePlayer will be able to successfully decode many 720p video content Without using hardware acceleration?
3. Does the onboard Qwerty keyboard auto-rotate to landscape if I turned the phone right,left etc during writing text messages and emails?
4. Karl (on the comments http://ai.rs/2009/09/htc-leo/comment-page-2/#comment-950), Asked a question about the MUSIC LIBRARY, is there any limitation on your tests on how many songs can be preloaded in the library (1000+)
October 16th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Anymore info guys? What about my further queries?
November 1st, 2009 at 9:48 pm
The big screen and fast processor are great drawing cards.
Unfortunately, the 1,230 mAh battery is inadequate for a big screen phone with a 1 MHz processor and an autofocus 5 MP camera.
No slide out keyboard and no 3G availability in the U.S. makes it like the old Touch HD. Hopefully, HTC will come up with a U.S. version with a bigger battery, U.S. capable 3G, and a slide out QWERTY.
November 17th, 2009 at 11:17 am
i love it!!!!
December 21st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
Mine comes tomorrow! WAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
